We have a priest!

There is at last a priest in residence at the Kirkwall presbytery: Fr Peter Kelly, who is on loan from the diocese of Hexham & Newcastle for the next four months. It might take a while for regular Mass times &c. to settle down, but this is what is happening this week:
Mass at 12 noon from Monday to Saturday - there will be the blessing and imposition of ashes at the Mass on Ash Wednesday;
Stations of the Cross and Benediction at 7 p.m. on Friday;
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Saturday morning from 11.30 a.m. until the Mass at noon;
Mass next Sunday at 11 a.m.
Fr Kelly will be hearing confessions on Monday, during the customary recitation of the rosary from 11.30 a.m.; and on Saturday, during Exposition.
Service times might change next week.
We welcome Fr Kelly, and look forward to getting to know him better!

I'm so pleased for you!

A friend and I were walking in the northwest this summer: there are so few Sunday Masses that our entire two weeks' route was worked out backwards and forwards from getting to one. It's so sad, I'd love to live somewhere up there (all I need for my job is a pile of books and an internet connection) but the precariousness of Mass provision is such a huge minus.

Aberdeen diocese needs to conduct a recruitment campaign for hermit priests :D

Is it just the general culture of liturgical apartheid that means the FSSR can't look after the parish?

oh hello do you know about mej.com????

@Berenike. I'll send you a message.

@Anonymous. I don't know whether your site is going to be pro- or anti- the alleged apparitions in a certain Bosnian town, but an anonymous comment containing a URL and excessive numbers of question marks looks suspiciously like spam. Are you going to tell us any more about who you are & what your site is?

I hope he settles in. You can tell him I am asking after him.

It is wonderful that you could get a priest for your parish.

I am curious. The official parish website states at the top of the page, that the
Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer are NOT in communion with the Catholic Church.

This information is clearly not correct since 2008. Why hasn't it been changed I wonder?

I don't live in UK but I am curious about Orkney and particularly about the monks that live in Papa Stronsay.
Have a joyful Easter.

@ferric79. Well spotted. I'll mention that to the webmaster when he gets back from his Easter holiday! The website was recently revived after several years in abeyance, so I expect it's just an oversight.
Happy Easter!
