Orkney, Thurso & Wick

I just came across this interesting article from the Tablet that must be about three years old. It describes our neighbouring parishes in Wick and Thurso - separated from us by six miles of the most treacherous waters in the British Isles, mind you - and gives an account of a typical weekend's work for our parish priest, Fr John Allen. The routine in 2010 is pretty much as described here, and there is an interested potted history of the Catholic Church's presence in this part of the world over the last 150 years or so.

Our parish church in Kirkwall is dedicated to Our Lady & St Joseph; that in Wick, to St Joachim; & in Thurso, to St Anne. So we have the extended Holy Family pretty well covered between us!
